Pastor Dawn Damon


Dawn Scott Damon is Lead and co-founding Pastor. Ordained with the Wesleyan Church, she is passionate about seeing people reach their full potential in Christ. As an Author, Speaker, and Freedom Coach, Pastor Dawn’s messages are filled with sound biblical teaching, laugh-out-loud humor, and inspiration to “fully live in your God-given dream.” Dawn is also an award-winning author, of 4 books, including “When the Woman You Love Was Abused, and her most recent, “The Freedom Challenge: 60 Days to Untie the Cords that Bind You.”

Pastor Julian Newman


Julian Newman is Co-Founding Pastor at Tribes. In addition to his work at Tribes to help build this mosaic Jesus community, he is an actor, author, screenwriter, comedian and thought leader in the global marketplace. As Founder/CEO of the leadership development consultancy Culture Creative, he has trained for profit and non profit organizations across the nation, helping to build a more beautiful world. He’s currently writing the book, ‘The Re-imagination of the American Jesus Movement’ to be released in 2020 as well as developing a short film on redemption called “Rewind”. He’s the father of 4 beautiful daughters, where loves watching great movies, playing board games, and reading amazing books. 

Jake Forquer


Jake Forquer is a passionate, outgoing, extroverted follower of Jesus Christ.  He is also a Dad to 2 kiddos, husband of Liz, God Father to teenagers, best friend of Dwight, and leader of Tribes Church Student Ministries Department.  Family time for Jake consists of playing pranks on Liz, out energizing their kids and playing on the tallest swing set in the greater Grand Rapids area.  

Jake's calling is to train up the next generation of teenagers to be diligent followers of Jesus Christ. Jake's personal mandate from God is to always answer questions being mindful of Scripture first and his own opinion second or not at all. Jake's hidden talent is being able to say all the English language helping verbs in one breath.

Dwight Hudson


As our Worship Director, Dwight helps lead our efforts to see our community grow in worship through boldly declaring songs of praise, lament, joy and encouragement that extends beyond the Sunday morning experience.  Dwight has been at Tribes Church for a little over 4 years where he writes and sings music each week.  Outside of church Dwight is a Software developer who works on Websites, Desktop Apps, and Mobile Apps.  He is originally from Charleston, SC and moved to Greensboro, NC for college before coming to Michigan in 2012.

Joy Messelink


Joy Messelink is part of the executive team and serves in the role of Office and Project Manager. She and her husband Ron pastored for over 18 years in the Rockford area and she brings tremendous wisdom and expertise to Tribes. Of herself Joy says, “I have a passion to love God well.  That includes letting Him use the gifts He gave me to manage and serve TRIBES church so our leadership can excel in their passion to teach the Word of God.”

Other passions of Joy’s include reading the Word of God with her husband. “I love spending time together with Ron and talking about scripture,” she says.  Joy and Ron have 2 married kids, with the best spouses ever!  Most of all she adores her 7 grandkids, eating out, visiting large cities, and road trips. 

Cindy Batchelor

Administrative Assistant

Cindy Batchelor and her husband Robin Batchelor, have two children, Jason and Rachael, who have given them three grandchildren each, Nathanael, Tristyn, Kaliea, Sofia, Lola and Camille. Cindy says she was made to be a grandma and enjoys every moment with her family.

Cindy has been attending Tribes since 2015 and in 2016 began serving the Worship Team leaders behind the scenes as Admin.  Before moving to Greenville, Michigan, she was the founder of Strait Gate House of Prayer and served as volunteer Administrator and head worship leader for eight years.  Cindy counts it a privilege to serve those who come to Tribes and to give support to our wonderful pastors.

Paul Damon, CFP, ChFC, CAP, CEPA


Paul has a passion to see people find their purpose in Jesus and experience the joy of living generosity.  Paul loves teaching on the principles of stewardship and generosity in the church and in the marketplace.  He is responsible for teaching stewardship and also overseeing the stewardship of all resources at Tribes church.
Paul is President and owner of Family Capital Management and founder of Stewardship Planning Partners.
He enjoys spending time with his wife, Pastor Dawn, their 8 children and 11 grandchildren.  They spend free time on the water enjoying skiing and other water related activities.  They love traveling and seeing different parts of the world. 

Tiana Hawver


Tiana Hawver is the Children's Ministry director and joined the staff in November 2018. Before joining Tribes, Tiana was on staff at a large Grand Rapids church in children's ministry for three years as the elementary coordinator, where on an average week there were 160 elementary kids in attendance. Tiana has an undergraduate degree in Family Life from Great Lakes Christian College in Lansing, MI, and is currently attending Grand Valley State University pursuing her master's degree in communication.

In her spare time, Tiana enjoys reading, movies, live music, spending time with friends and family, and time at the beach or by the pool.

Robin Batchelor


Robin Batchelor is the facilities director and lead person of our Reach Team. As a Physician Assistant for 37 years and a retired lieutenant colonel from the MIARNG, he understands and really relishes when there is order and harmony working among all the parts in the Body of Christ. He enjoys seeing people employ their skills in keeping our worship facility and grounds attractive and clean for the glory of God and the pleasure of His people.

Also, as a wood worker Robin likes taking raw material and seeing it transformed into beautiful and meaningful works of function.

He graduated with his Masters in Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Nebraska and used his knowledge on mission trips to Guatemala and with deployment to Afghanistan. Even for all of its warts, he is supremely thankful for the blessing of living in the United States.

Pastor Neva J. Swinson


Rev. Neva J. Swinson is an ordained Minister.   She is a mother, grandmother, minister and servant of God.  She has two children and four grandchildren.  Family time for Neva consists of cheering on her grandchildren in their sports and other endeavors as well as being a lifelong advocate and champion for her children.

Her calling is to come alongside anyone who is hurting and needs Jesus with skin on.  Whether, hospital calls, partnership during time of financial crisis, funeral, wedding, prayer or a cheerleader.

Her mandate from God is to understand the times and seasons we are in as the men and women of Isachar.   Serving as a stabilizing factor of wisdom and love.
